Bishop Johannes will lead the Young Rite movement in South Africa. He received the Apostolic Succession from The Liberal Catholic Church at his consecration in the Pro-Cathedral of Saint Alban in Johannesburg on 6 January, 1980. The Consecrator was Bishop Patrick, Regionary Bishop of South Africa, empowered to consecrate him by the General Episcopal Synod of The Liberal Catholic Church. Bishop Johannes resigned from the Liberal Catholic Church in 2002 on a matter of principle in the Canon Law.

Bishop Johannes is supported by Reverend Jannie Hofkamp, who was ordained to the priesthood by +Johannes on the 16th of March, 2008. Both +Johannes and Jannie are vegetarian, teetotaler, and abstain from using tobacco or any other form of habit-forming drugs.
