The 12th General Episcopal Synod was originally intended to
be held at Winchester. The costs, however, proved to be too high. The Presiding Bishop
approved the search for not only a more moderate costed centre, but also a more
appropriate centre.
All Saints Pastoral Centre, owned by the Roman Catholic Church, is set
in 70 acres of grounds on the southern outskirts of the cathedral city of St. Albans. The
centre is built upon the reputed site of the capture of St. AIban, with his tomb in the
St. Alban's cathedral. The beautiful chapel has a side altar to St. Alban. It would
therefore seem that this venue is most apposite for our Church's use. The centre is about
40 minutes by Motorway from Heathrow Airport.
Costs for those attending will be £ 38.50 per person per night fully
inclusive of three vegetarian meals per day, as well as the usual morning and afternoon
tea and coffee. Whilst Bishops will be accommodated by the British Province, each Bishop
will be asked to pay a £ 50.00 registration fee. A deposit of £ 50.00 will be required
of all other participants.
As with the 11th General Episcopal Synod, there will also be
an International Clerical Synod and an International Church Congress. At this stage the
programme structure is still being established. However, the 11th of July will,
obviously, be Registration Day.
