Consecration of
Rt. Rev. Raymond Charles Pointon
The Rt. Rev. Raymond
Charles Pointon was consecrated into the Episcopate on Sunday 14th December 1997 at the
Liberal Catholic pro-cathedral, Auckland New Zealand. The Consecrator was The Rt. Rev.
Alfred Lambden, Regionary Bishop of New Zealand. Bishop Ian Hooker, Regionary for
Australia and Bishop Graham Preston, Auxiliary Bishop of Australia, assisted Bishop
Alfred. Also present was Bishop Alan Bradley of Australia who at the moment of
consecration joined the Consecrator and assisting Bishops.
The Consecration was the climax of a four-day New Zealand Liberal
Catholic Church Congress with theme: The Reality of Holy Orders. Bishop Alfred
chaired some stimulating discussions on this theme with contributions from the visiting
Bishops, clergy and congregation from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
The Consecration was a moving and memorable occasion superbly lead by
Bishop Alfred and excellently assisted by Bishops Ian and Graham with warmth and dignity.
Bishop Alan lead the singing with his strong clear voice and everyone present contributed
to a wonderful atmosphere. The whole occasion was captured on videotape. A panel was
removed from a high window so that the camera could record a wide view of all parts of the
ceremony. This was a wonderful event to lead into the Christmas and New Year season.
