Summer
School 2009 - Programme
The Sophia Circle is holding its third international meeting from Friday the 17th
until Friday the 24th of July 2009 in Slovenia.
In keeping with the idea of the Sophia Circle Family, that it is a platform for
individuals who hold an esoteric view on Christianity, while simultaneously valuing the
sacramental tradition, the programme contains sacramental as well as nonsacramental
elements.
The daily programme follows a basic structure: Every day commences with meditation.
These meditations are open to both practised meditators as those who have never meditated
before. Every day a different meditation technique is explained and practised so that by
the end of the Summer School everyone may have experienced several basic meditation
techniques, from which he or she may choose if so inclined. After breakfast a mythical
story is used as point of departure for the development of a new experimental service. It
is hoped to develop this over the entire period of the Summer School, so that it may be
celebrated as closing event on the last day. The Eucharist being at the core of Christian
Sacramentalism, every morning is concluded by the celebration of one of the various forms
of the Eucharist.
After lunch a variety of short workshops will be held on subjects as diverse as:
Abundance, Deeksha, Circle of the Wisdom ritual, Masonry, Priesthood, meditative walking,
Esoteric Christianity, Angels, Mandalas, Education, Restorative Practices, Quantum Physics
in relation to religion, etc. Each afternoon closes with a session of singing and dancing,
the latter following the principles of the Dances for Universal Peace.
After supper discussions are held, which are meant to cover a variety of subjects with
the aim to develop deeper vision and understanding of the spiritual experience in general.
All of the activities are open for all Summer School participants, yet none are
obligatory. In other words, if at any particular moment of time none of the scheduled
activities tickles your fancy, no problem, just relax, go to the nearby spa, go for a
walk! The draft programme, from day to day:
