Markus Franciscus van Alphen was born on June 27, 1960 in Pretoria, South Africa. Markus is a bishop in the tradition of the Liberal Catholic Church, currently active as such in the Young Rite. He has a BSc degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Cape Town and a MSc degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Amsterdam. Markus works as a relationship and family psychologist in a practice in Amsterdam and as a psychologist for people seeking help via the internet. He is married to Brigitte Klein Bog, lives in the Netherlands and has two daughters from a previous marriage.
